Robata Bar - Happy Hour

If you've eaten at Sushi Roku in Santa Monica, then you've probably noticed Robata Bar snuggled right up next to it. Robata Bar, from the same IDG (Innovative Dining Group) team as Roku, focuses on fare from the grill - and they don't use your ordinary store bought charcoal. Binchotan, an imported Japanese charcoal, gets crazy hot and sears in a slightly smoky flavor to the open-flame grilled skewers. Ordering individual skewers is very appealing for diners seeking a wide variety of options and they start as low as $2.25.

 

 

I was excited to hear that Robata Bar amped up their happy hour recently, adding more skewers and some sushi selections from next door. New additions include tomato wrapped bacon and chicken meatball skewers, your choice of 3 sushi rolls, a mini chocolate volcano and a specialty cocktail: The Strawberry Spice (Grey Goose, strawberries, Martini Rosato). You can also still enjoy their usual happy hour selections like hot/cold or Nigori sake, Kirin beer, Fuji apple martini and a bunch of tapas. The list goes on…

 

 

 

My suggestion? Get your palette going with the Bloody Mary oyster shooter and then move diretly on to the the spicy tuna hanabi - never a dissapointment. Next, order the albacore sashimi with garlic ponzu and cripsy onions before you tongue dance with some hatsu (grilled chicken hearts).

 

 

 

And if you are stuck at the office late, don't fret because they offer a late night happy hour too. Stop in Monday - Thursday, 10pm - 11pm for a power hour of epic proportions or stay beyond their happy hour for more exciting grill selections like the king crab legs, baked cod skewers or the chef's selection.

 

 

"We wanted to create a Japanese gastropub vibe," says manager Nash Yoshimura and mentions that the company made extra efforts to bring in a special beer tap system that pours a creamy, Japanese imported Asahi beer. They'e also added Hitochino, a Belgium style white brew that is a rare draft find in Los Angeles.

 

 

 

So whether you decide to soak in the sunset view of the ocean on the patio or dine inside Robata Bar, many tasty options will be awaiting you at this intimate innovative dining experience.
