Marix – West Hollywood
By Maren Swanson

Dear Love,

I’ll never forget my first Marix experience. A few years ago, before I had realized my true appreciation for Happy Hour, I met a guy I was dating at Marix for an afternoon margarita. I walked over from my apartment on a beautiful LA day and entered an open-air Mexican restaurant that was rumored to be Brad and Jen’s favorite M(EX)ican restaurant.

My date ordered us a pitcher of the “Kick Ass Margarita,” and we munched on chips and salsa as we waited for our drinks to arrive. The weather was warm and the saucy cocktails and sun were dissipating at a rapid pace. We paid the bill and headed to our next destination. Word to the wise, the margaritas at Marix seriously did KICK MY ASS! I will never forget that night. Let’s just say, things got a little crazyyy.

I decided to re-visit my neighborhood joint a few weeks ago, however this time I forewarned my ladies of my previous “kick ass,” experience and we stuck with the Happy Hour House margaritas. We settled at the small patio adjacent to the main dining area, which had a private patio space perfect for sharing naughty

female gossip.

Our server was friendly and attentive and suggested his favorite HH dishes to us. The menu offered Guacamole, Taquitos, Mexican Pizza, Nachos, Jalepeno Poppers, Tacos and Queso Fundido, and all of the items landed under the $5 mark. The Poppers were huge and hot, and I was a big fan of the Mexican Pizza dressed with pesto and chicken; the crust was flaky and crisp. It reminded me ofl cheese crisp (an Arizona thing). The nachos earned extra points with piled high jalepenos and fresh guacamole.

Turns out our Happy Hour margaritas were only $4 and beer only $3! Not only was I enjoying the company, but I was equally enthusiastic about the prices at Marix. In addition to the Monday – Friday Happy Hour, Marix also does Margarita Madness on Mondays, offering specials on margaritas all day and Taco Tuesdays, with all-you-can-eat chicken, carnitas and veggie tacos for $7.95.

I love tucked-away neighborhood joints and this place is no exception. I’d like to swing by here for the upcoming Cinco De Mayo celebration, but I have a feeling the word’s already out on this place and there will be no shortage of Patron shots or happy Patrons for the that sake.

XXOO,

Maren
