Happy hour has taken off for the savvy restaurateur trying to save a little on the pocket book. You no longer have to sacrifice taste or quality because upscale restaurants from the beaches of Malibu to the streets of Downtown Los Angeles are now giving guests the opportunity to enjoy the finer side of happy hour. Here are five amazing fine dining restaurants that are producing fantastic happy hours for every foodie’s palate in Los Angeles.

Mercato Di’Vetro, SBE’s Italian eatery, now introduces ‘Ciao Hour’ every Sunday through Friday. From 6pm to 8pm, Ciao Hour offers 8 food and 8 drink options for $8. Their featured item, oysters are served three ways: raw, grilled, or fried in their oyster sliders. If you miss Ciao hour, stick around to sample specialty cocktails from either of their 2 bars while you watch the chefs culinary skills behind their open concept kitchens.

Another SBE spot contributing to the happy hour scene is Gladstone’s in Malibu, where Sunset meets the PCH. SBE commenced their summer scene with “Hyde at the Beach,” promoting an extravagant Memorial Day gathering with the EC Twins. Gladstone’s happy hour begins every Monday and goes through Friday (in the bar) from 3pm to 6pm with $7 specialty cocktails, $5 featured wine, $4 Miller Lite and Pacifico. The happy hour menu features $2 oysters on the half shell and $6 bar bites like Chicken Satay and Ahi Tuna Salad Sliders. They also offer daily specials from Kid Mondays to Thursday Night Jazz and Sports Sundays.

Downtown Los Angeles has been improving and rebuilding, offering new resident housing, an ever expanding bar scene and incredible restaurants to boot. If you’ve been hitting up the bar at The Standard Downtown for a while, try a different rooftop happy hour at Perch’s ‘Aperitif Hour.’ 4pm to 6pm, Monday through Friday, discounted drinks include $5 Biere (beer) Kronenburg 1664, $6 wines (choose from sparkling, blends or featured wine), $6 Royals and $7 specialty cocktails like the Penicillin, Hemingway on the Beach and Coup de Coeur (libation of the day). Perch's aperitif menu offers Petit Morceau, or “little morsels” for the non-French speaking, featuring $2.50 mini hotdogs and beef sliders, $4 mixed nuts, $6 brie en croute, $7 heirloom tomato bruchetta, $8 truffle fries (my personal favorite), $9 truffle mac and cheese, $9 fruit platter and $9 - $11 cheese and meat platters. Plus, the view is free.

Ruth Chris’, one of the biggest neighborhood steakhouses in Beverly Hills has a “Sizzle, Swizzle and Swirl Menu,” aka happy hour. From 5pm to 6pm, in the bar area only, the Beverly Hills location offers 7 food items for $7. Their savory happy menu offers prime burger with fries, three petite prime burger sliders, seared Ahi tuna, spicy lobster, tenderloin skewers and a steak sandwich with fries. Spend a little less on select wine, beer and specialty drinks including the Cosmo, Pomegranate Martini, the Ruth Manhattan, Moscow Mule and the Rocks Rita.

Rivabella

The newest restaurant to reveal their high-end happy hour is the super swanky and gorgeous Italian restaurant, RivaBella. Innovative Dining Group, the owners behind Katana, Sushi Roku and BOA Steakhouse, teamed up with highly regarded Italian chef Gino Angelini, to create a rustic chic patio with Italian edibles for LA’s hip foodie crowd. Riva Bella’s happy hour runs from 5pm to 7pm, Monday through Friday and offers a $10 pizza, $7 mussels, $11 meat and cheese plate, $5 cocktails and $6 select wines.

RivaBella's new neighbor, Chi Lin (also by IDG), has just launched a new happy hour too. Monday to Friday, 5pm - 7pm, enjoy high-end Chinese food in their posh and plush lounge. Chi Lin happy hour has $5 Tsing Tao beer, white wine and Prosecco, $6 red wine and $7 specialty cocktail options. Appetizers also start at $5 and include vegetarian hot and sour soup, pan fried chicken potstickers, kale and shitake mushroom salad, 5-spice smoked shaved beef on crispy scallion pastry and chilled garlic brussel sprouts.

With the expansion of fine dining happy hours, you too, can dine like a king or queen at many restaurants for a fraction of the price. Greater options have arrived bringing quality and upscale class to happy hours. Now even the most particular palate will find something amazing for their perfect happy hour.
