There is a good chance that you are tired from shopping and hanging decorations and almost falling off the ladder trying to put up lights. We still have weeks left until Christmas so you can’t give up yet! I’ve put together a list of classic drinks like hot buttered rum and modern like a salted caramel martini. These holiday drinks will get you through Christmas and into the New Year because they are just that good. Cheers!
The Classic Brandy Eggnog
I don’t think it gets more classic then eggnog and brandy together. We can even take it back to when it was Clark's go-to drink in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Note: You can totally shake up this traditional drink by replacing the brandy with anything from bourbon to tequila.
What you’ll need: • 1 ¼ oz milk How to make it: Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass.
Hot Wassail
This classic drink is tangy, sweet and warm all in one. It’s perfect for when the days get cold and wet.
What you’ll need:
Hot Buttered Rum
It’s a little sweet, but the holiday’s are all about sweet things. You can water it down or add more rum if you don’t like the sweetness of it, but if you do…. follow the recipe exactly! It makes 4 servings.
What you’ll need: • 2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar Using an electric mixer, beat the brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a medium bowl until blended and smooth. Transfer the mixture to a 4-cup (or larger) measuring cup. Add the rum and then 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until the butter mixture dissolves. Divide the buttered rum among 4 mugs. Garnish with the cinnamon sticks and serve.
Mulled Wine
• 1 bottle cabernet sauvignon • 4 whole cloves • 2 oranges, sliced thinly, for garnish
How to make it: In a large saucepan, mix the cider, wine, honey, orange juice, cinnamon sticks, & cloves. Bring to a boil, and then turn the heat down to simmer for 10 minutes. Scoop out the cloves & cinnamon sticks. Pour into glasses garnished with cinnamon sticks and and orange slices.
The White Christmas Cocktail
What you’ll need: • 1 oz Cinnamon Spice Kahlua • 1/2 oz Sweet Italian Creamer (Coffemate - fat free or regular) • 1/4 oz Peppermint Extract
How to make it: Layer ingredients in a glass or martini shaker (not garnishes). Add ice and shake well 3 to 4 times. Re-distribute mixed ingredients to a fresh glass of ice. Top with garnishes. Serve. Enjoy!
Raspberry Pomegranate Champagne
This drink is seriously so pretty. I mean you can obviously tell from the picture above, but can you just imagine how good it tastes if it looks that great? It’s pretty amazing. Try it yourself.
What you’ll need:
How to make it: Freeze your glasses until frosty. Add 2 tablespoons of pomegranate juice to the bottom of each glass. Add a few small scoops of the raspberry sorbet and 1 tablespoon of pomegranate seeds to each glass. Top with chilled champagne. (I continued to top off the glass with more champagne as I drank, because there is more than enough sorbet to flavor several glasses full if you wish.)
Salted Caramel Martini
Okay, so, some of you may be thinking that Salted Caramel is more of a fall flavor, but it’s good! I swear it. Salted Caramel can be used at any time of the year in my opinion and this martini is great for the Holidays. Seriously. I swear.
What you’ll need: • 1 part Salted Caramel Vodka
How to make it: You will also need a cocktail shaker, ice and a cold martini glass. Get your pre-frozen glass ready, pour some kosher salt on a plate, wet the rim of your glass and dip in the salt–just like you would to make a Margarita. Fill your shaker half-full with ice (crushed ice, preferably). Mix 1 part Vodka, 1 part Caramel Liquor and 1 part Simple Syrup in your shaker. Pour in caramel syrup to taste (start with a tablespoon). Shake Very Well. Using the strainer pour the drink into your cold glass. You can garnish with a salted caramel chocolate.
Apple Cider Margarita
Margarita’s are not just for Cinco de Mayo or Taco Tuesdays anymore. This Apple Cider Margarita is perfect for the Holidays.
What you’ll need: • 1 ounce Grand Marnier • 1 ounce gold tequila • 5-6 ounces sweet apple cider • Orange segments + apple slices • Garnishes: cinnamon sticks
How to make it: Add a few spoonfuls of cane sugar, coarse sugar and cinnamon to a plate. Run an orange segment around the edge of the glass, and then press into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat the rim. Add a few orange slices in the bottom of the glass, fill with ice, then add the Grand Marnier, tequila and apple cider and stir to mix. Garnish with apple slices and cinnamon sticks. Enjoy!
