The summer is here and I don’t know about you, but I have been making as many efforts as possible to cut calories when I can. I go through the same motions every May: increasing my gym visits, eating more salads and drinking plenty of water all for the good of becoming bikini ready. However, when it comes to changing my drink routine I find it harder to adapt, but the other day I was inspired by an “old school” favorite of mine: The Vodka Press.
For those of you that have never tried a press, you should, and it’s terribly simple to make. Making a press means adding half Sprite or 7up and half soda (or Tonic) to your vodka of choice. Vodka press drinks used to be a little bit more boring back in my post college days with the limited selection of flavored vodkas on the market, but these days your options are plentiful.
An immense variety of vodka flavors, including infusions, have been trending in the vodka community lately. Whether you like cherry, orange, citron, blackberry, salted caramel, pumpkin pie or even fruit loops, most likely a company has made it or is developing it.
My advice? Take advantage of these new flavors and add a twist – literally. Since you are working with sodas, add some seasonal muddled fruit or fruit twists to your press for some added flavor. Plus, with a press, you are taking out a big chunk of those calories with the addition of the soda (or use could easily use a calorie-free citrus flavored soda, too).
I've learned in my thirties that losing weight usually isn't accidental - you have to work at it. So at your next summer shindig, keep your drinks flavorful and skinny-style with the vodka press and I guarantee your friends will find your calorie-saving techniques to be very imPRESSive.
Suggestion:
We recently tried a new vodka and moscato blend, Smoke, which would work great for a press. Here's what you'll need:
