Evil Dead Red Ale

I thought it was appropriate to stick with the spirit of Halloween for my next Drink du jour review since the spooky night of tricks and treats are just a couple days away. Many of us tend to think of specialty cocktails for the big day, but lately, beer companies are starting to contribute some spooktacular seasonal brews too.

My boyfriend actually picked up a single bottle of this beer the last time we were at Trader Joe's: Evil Dead Red Ale. He's not a huge craft beer expert or anything, but I know that the label spoke to him because he loves horror movies. As a screenwriter, he actually wrote a scary kids movie called Fear of the Dark and he's working one a new one right now. The label on Evil Dead Red is hard to miss; zombie silhouettes rise from the grave with a terrifying font and well, the name helps too.

We tasted it the other night while we were decorating for our Halloween party and we really enjoyed it. I immediately tasted toasted caramel and color of the beer is actually a rusty red - perfect for setting the seasonal mood. There are other thoughtful details about the beer as well; looking at the label, you will notice that the ABV is 6.66%. Clever.

Unfortunately, AleSmith only releases the great tasting red ale during this specific season, so get to the store soon if you want to give it a try. And by the way, I can't get my black cat to pose for anything and look what transpired when I tried to take a picture of Evil Dead Red. Coincidence? Hmmm...
