My recent Great-Gatsby wedding finally concluded a few weeks ago and let me tell you, the day after our big party, I was so unbelievably hungry! Maybe the pressure of the “bridal body” subsided for a bit or the fact that I was too busy having fun to eat all of my food at the reception was kicking in, but either way, I was ready to grub at some serious happy hour.
We had decided to have a family happy hour cocktail party across from our hotel (and next to our venue, The Oviatt Penthouse) at Seven Grand, so naturally, we decided it would be a good idea to follow up with dinner downstairs at Más Malo. Más Malo is the sister restaurant of the ever-popular Malo in Silver Lake and from the looks of the crowd on the night we dined, it looked like it was still going strong.
Since our dinner had gone well a few nights before, we decided to give their happy hour a go. My parents and my new husband showed up about 20 minutes before Más Malo’s happy hour actually began, so we ordered a few Coronas, a shot of Patron tequila (hey, we earned it!) and some chips and salsa until the clock struck 3 p.m. First off, I love that their happy hour begins as early as 3 p.m.; most happy hours don’t start until 4 p.m. or later.
We ordered 4 dishes and some canned Modelo beer while we waited for the food to arrive. The first dish to hit the table was the Beef Taquitos with Avocado Sauce. The taquitos tasted nice and crispy and were topped with an ample amount of sauce and cheese. I really enjoyed the Beer Battered Fish Tacos, which were served with red onions, radishes, cabbage and fresh lime wedges over corn tortillas – delish.
To finish things off, we dove into the Chicken Mole Mexican Pizza and their “traditional” Mexican pizza. Let’s just say, HOLY MOLE! We all agreed that the mole sauce overwhelmed the other ingredients on the pizza, so needles to say, we didn’t finish the dish. The other Mexican pizza was saturated with cheddar cheese and refried beans and tasted friggin' naughty as f***.
Our bartender was very friendly and even let me place my huge flower arrangement up on the bar while we noshed. Overall, I feel that Más Malo delivered decently priced dishes for both our dinner and happy hour during our wedding weekend. The Mole Pizza may have literally been “más malo,” but the service and value was solid.
