So I finally checked out Petty Cash’s happy hour. What took me so long? Who knows, but I made it and…I’m glad I did. If you happen to make it to Petty Cash, too, bring cash. Yes, you can pay for your bill with credit card, but you’ll need cash for the valet. Just a tip. There are meters nearby, but it is nearly impossible to land one and they are limited on time, F.Y.I.
The weekday happy hour at Petty Cash (a Taqueria) runs Monday through Friday, 5pm – 7pm and for $6 a pop, the margaritas are well worth it. Oh, and this is pretty cool, at the bottom of the happy hour menu you’ll notice a little message with an asterisk that says: “Take a shot/Get a shot”. I asked the bartender what that was about, of course. Basically, if you take a picture of your happy hour experience at Petty Cash and post it on Instagram (show the bartender proof), you a free shot. Boo-yah! Tequila for me-yah!
I did it. I bragged on Instagram that I was imbibing with $4 - $6 drink specials and I earned a free shot for it. Win win, no? ;)
But let’s get to food and other details. When my friend and I walked it, the place was lively. We grabbed two seats at the bar, ordered some drinks and the nachos and tacos from the happy hour menu. I thought we’d get a typical plate of happy hour nachos, you know, chips just piled with cheese, sour cream, cilantro, jalapeños – the usual. Not even close. Our happy hour nachos arrived smothered with cheese and vegetables, lots of vegetables. We’re talking kale, cauliflower, peppers, avocado and more. It totally worked for me. The nachos were still sort of naughty and also hearty, without me feeling completely guilty about consuming them.
Our happy hour tacos were served on what had to have been homemade tortillas with some pickled cabbage on top, and we could see a lady from the open kitchen bar view slicing the meat on the tacos to order. Nice touch. As we finished our meal, the place started to fill up even more. The vibe was good, the drinks were better and the prices and happy hour were reasonable. Plus, I got a free shot and my daily dose of vegetables. No complaints here.
