Basix - Happy Hour By Tara Redfield
Dear Love,
I had to miss Cheyenne's birthday extravaganza in Las Vegas over the weekend, but she was willing to re-live some of the highlights with me at Basix, a bar and restaurant with a huge outdoor patio that is always busy when I walk by it on my way to Gelson's to get Ice Cream and Vanity Fair. Why I have never gone to this seemingly popular cafe is a mystery to me...especially when they have a happy hour and it's a walkable distance!
I was exhausted from all of the dating I had been doing...well from one date in particular from the previous night. When we sat down Cheyenne, still battling a lingering Vegas hangover, ordered a vodka lemonade, but, I just needed a cup of coffee! The coffee was not on the happy hour menu, but plenty of food was and I was going to take full advantage of that!
We devoured a grilled chicken and goat cheese mini pizza, sliders, a caesar salad, and deviled eggs. Didn't I just have deviled eggs at Pop? Yes. Must be a new happy hour trend. One that I am very okay with. Between bites, Cheyenne reveled in the re-telling of her "Dirty 30" weekend shenanigans (which she even received a battle wound for on her left knee thanks to alcohol plus the faux beach of the Monte Carlo). Then it was my turn to catch her up on my latest adventures with online dating. Specifically details from my "last night" with the boy with dragon tattoo...he literally has a dragon tattoo.
Basix is comfortable. It has that perfect neighborhood feel to it. The food was tasty, especially the pizza. I know I didn't get a cocktail or glass of wine, but for this day, happy hour food was enough for me and the coffee gave me the kick I needed to live out the rest of my night. Mystery solved, it's always busy because it's good. It's always a comfort to have a reliable happy hour in the neighborhood. To find a reliable man in my neighborhood would be nice too, preferably a straight one...dragon tattoo or not!
