My Silverlake Wine Night

Well, I finally had my first experience at Silverlake Wine's tasting night and I can honestly say it was a blast. Silverlake Wine does their wine tasting flights every Monday evening and from the moment you walk in, you feel as though there's energy in the room. Mostly because the place is packed with wine, cheese and food lovers. People are all over the place, from hanging at the wine bar to sipping wine and chatting with friends in any open area.

The first thing we noticed before entering the shop was the Heirloom Organic food truck parked right outside. The menu looked great, from Lasagna Cupcakes to a Jidori Chicken Mole. But that was to wait; we had to introduce ourselves to the good juice first. The store had such a great selection of wine that we actually decided to skip the flight tasting and just buy a couple bottles of Grenache and Syrah instead. The staff is great about it too, they'll pop the bottle open and make sure the bottle hasn't gone bad. As it turned out, the bottle of Syrah we bought had in fact turned. The staff member just went and grabbed another bottle, no trouble at all. They also put both our wines into decanters, which I thought was a nice little bonus. The staff members also made great suggestions on other wines that they thought we'd like based off the bottles we bought.

After we got the wine situation taken care of, the next step was grabbing some food from the Heirloom truck. I'd say about 80% of the people attending had got food from the truck and brought it inside to enjoy with their wine. The Grenache (Herman Story: On The Road) had notes of blackberry, cherry cola, leather and pomegranate and by luck paired beautifully with the Jidori Mole. And let me add that the Short Rib Burrito was absolutely insane.

It was a great night out and I will definitely find myself back there on a Monday to learn more from the staff and make great conversation with my fellow standing neighbors. And a little side note, when you've finished up at Silverlake Wine, walk right across the street to the L.A. famous Red Lion Gastro Pub. Enjoy Everyone!
